On July 24th, 2019, the V-BID Center co-hosted the webinar VBID X: A New Plan Option for the Individual Health Insurance Market, with the Harvard Healthcare Markets & Regulation Lab. The interactive program discussed V-BID X, a novel benefit design that reduces consumer cost-sharing for targeted high-value services and increases cost-sharing for specific low-value services. V-BID X avoids any increases in premiums and deductibles, as the added costs resulting from the increased use of high-value care are completely offset by reductions in spending on care that often creates no clinical value and potentially causes harm.
The webinar, moderated by A. Mark Fendrick, the V-BID Center director, included panelists Michael Chernew, Director, Healthcare Markets and Regulation (HMR) Lab; Greg Gierer, Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, AHIP; Lourdes Grindal-Miller, Director, Marketplace Plan Management Group, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services; and Peter Lee, Executive Director, Covered California.
