Laura Chen
Laura Chen
Laura is a rising senior at Johns Hopkins University double majoring in Biology and Public Health Studies, with a focus in Biostatistics.  She is a Research Assistant at the Department of Health, Behavior, and Society at the Bloomberg School of Public Health.  After interning in a private medical practice during the summer of 2016, Laura understood the need for better value of healthcare services obtained, motivating her work at the V-BID Center. Outside of class, Laura enjoys baking and hiking.
Prisca Diala
Prisca Diala
Prisca is a rising senior pursuing a BA in Economics at Pomona College in Claremont, CA.  Her choice interest in economics centers on her desire to understand economic decision-making and the factors that affect those decisions with the hopes of marrying it to medicine as a future MD, MPH.  As she delved more into topics like health economics, knowing how healthcare systems deliver appropriate and effective care to patients sparked her interest. Prisca is working with V-BID Center this summer because she believes that the Center will allow her to gain a better understanding of the challenges and successes of delivering healthcare to patients. Outside of her academic and food commitments, Prisca is a varsity track and field athlete, as well as an active member of the 3D Leadership Program.
Hannah Lucas
Hannah Lucas
Hannah Lucas is a recent graduate of the University of Michigan. Though she majored in Neuroscience and German, Hannah’s minor in Gender and Health and time spent abroad led her to develop an interest in health policy and its impact on health disparities. She hopes to further explore this interest over the course of her year with the V-BID Center before attending medical school and pursuing a combined MD/MPH.
Maggie Shope
Maggie Shope
Maggie is a rising senior at the University of Michigan pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Physics.  After graduating, she plans to attend medical school and pursue a career in primary care.  Her interests include holistic patient-centered care and the interaction between healthcare policy and individual health.  She is interested in the V-BID Center’s patient-centered approach to healthcare policy and hopes to gain tools and knowledge about the U.S. healthcare system that she can use to better serve her patients in the future.  Outside of school and work, Maggie loves to run and is trying to learn to cook food other than Mac ‘n Cheese.
Rashna Soonavala
Rashna Soonavala
Rashna is a rising sophomore at the University of Michigan and will be applying for a B.S. in Public Health Sciences with a minor in Spanish.  Rashna currently works as a research assistant in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Michigan’s School of Public Health and is a member of Michigan’s UNICEF club.  While at V-BID, Rashna hopes to learn more about ways in which low-income families can effectively spend their health care dollars in order to receive the medical services they deserve.  Apart from work, Rashna enjoys watching late night television, eating spicy food, and tossing a frisbee in the Arb.
