On Friday, July 21, Dr. A. Mark Fendrick, MD, Director of the Center for Value-Based Insurance Design (V-BID), presented at the annual Michigan Association of Health Plans summer conference during the general session, entitled “The Future of Value-Based Payment Models and the Impact on Pharmacy”.

The session addressed the pros and cons of several emerging issues, including the following:

  • Addressing health plans quality measures and how pharmacy vendor(s) have the capacity to offer and support value-based strategies
  • Implementing pay-for-performance models in the pharmacy network based upon pharmacy performance level metrics
  • Incorporating pharmaceutical management into a broader value-based benefit strategy
  • Implementing a value-based approach to managing pharmaceuticals based upon costs and outcomes
